Learn how to light with Japanorama! The next workshop will be held at Futago Tamagawa, with kids and a model to shoot! Date to be confirmed.
The camera world is going strobist-nuts. And no, that’s not a geeky euphemism for David Hobby’s erm, private area. It’s just a fact that the small-light big-brain solution to location lighting has caught on like a tropical fever. Learn how to get great light with minimal gear (and money) and improve your photography ten-fold.
Need a place to practice though? Need a model that doesn’t look like a hat-full of anuses? Want to learn how to do it from working pros? Then come along to the Strobist workshop at Futago Tamagawa. It’s a great place with lots of character and potential for shots under the bridge and around the river.
Location photography is what we teach and if you’ve been at one of our workshops before you’ll be given several briefs for shots that you need to take by the morning, before we review them and give you a chance to try any new things you may have realised.
If you are a beginner you will be taught how to control flash and ambient exposure from step one, and learn the relationships between your aperture, shutter speed, flash power and distance.
No matter who you are you will receive a special strobist cheat-sheet that folds down to the size of a baseball card. It’s cool – believe us.
Sayaka, our model, will be on-site from 12 that day, until 3pm. So you can have some fun shooting her. Given the location, we are inclined to ask her to bring casual clothes.

Plus, from 10am until 12 you will have Alfie’s cute kids to shoot pictures of. Pics of them here:

We dont have any animals to bring. Sorry. But two cute\manic kids and a pro-model should be challenge enough for you
Futago-Tamagawa is accessible on the Den-en Toshi Line, six stops from Shibuya. Meet at 10am and we will go until at least 3pm, weather permitting. If the creativity is bubbling over it may go for much longer though…be warned! Fees for the whole day are 8000yen.
Contact info@japanorama.co.uk to get your place or ask questions. Spots are limited to 6 people, to maximise the time we spend with participants.

Love to join this workshop, alas I’ve yet to buy a flash for my kit.
Anyone have anything available to borrow that’s compatible with my Pentax gear?
