Japanorama website goes iPhone friendly

Posted on 19 October 2009 by Alfie Goodrich

As iPhones descend like a rash upon the civilised world, we decided it was about time we had a mobile-friendly version of our site.

The iPhone is everywhere. In Japan you will be hard-pressed to find a gaijin without one. So, as we want to be about delivering what people want, how they want it… we have today enabled the Japanorama.co.uk website with a version that is iPhone friendly. Complete with an iPhone style icon so that when you bookmark us and ‘add to homescreen’, you get a lovely Japanorama icon added to your phone’s menu.

As the days and weeks progress, we will be adding much more iPhone friendly content to the site as well as working with a Tokyo-based developer to develop and release a range of photography, photowalk and Japan-relevant apps for the device.

Here are some screenshots of our iPhone friendly site, as displayed on what is rapidly becoming  the mobile device to own.

Great write up. The iPhone is truly amazing and I don’t like being without it. This time last year I had jumped in a pool with my iPhone and it was dead. I had to wait 9 days before I was able to buya new one. The phone I had was a cheap go phone. I really love all the apps that can be downloaded to the iPhone. The best part about the iPhone to me is the ability to check emails on the fly. Thanks for the information.

While reading through your archive I got interested in having a website about my art. My main problem is the lack of web development experience. How did you set up your blog? I can’t hire a webdesigner for this task because it’s just a quick idea. Any tips about an easy tool or software? Your blog seems to be custom programmed I guess?

Wordpress is the architecture and I took an existing theme and adapted it to what I wanted with graphics, changes to the CSS styling and some custom PHP. I used to have a web-design business so I know a little of what I’m doing. WordPress is an excellent platform though. Try Googling ‘wordpress portfolio themes’ and I am sure you’ll find some good inspiration.

I’ve by no means been a big but I’ve to admit that the iphone is kind of good! :) I would like to know if this subject about the iphone four is necessary or not. I might like to buy the new one and I used to be wondering if the calls actually drop more or not. Sorry if it’s a bit off subject :P Thanks a lot
