I’m just a newb photographer. Looking through Alfie’s and Hunter’s photos, I’ve decided my next lens will be a 85mm f/1.4. I know I won’t be able to take the same quality photos (given my experience), but I know with some practice, I should be able to produce some nice photos. I’m on a strict budget for my hobbies, so it will be some time before I buy this lens.

Thanks for the analogy re-adjustment there Bryan. The glue reference was certainly true before the D700 had its first firmware upgrade though; never have I experienced such slow focusing.

I disagree with your comment that the 50mm 1.4G is like “focusing through glue” I own this lens and will tell you that it’s more like focusing through maple syrup with partially un-dissolved sugar crystals.

I was one of those that was convinced to get this lens after seeing what you have done with it.

Although so far I have not been unable to create the same kind of magic that you produce so consistently. As much as I’d like to blame it on the equipment, I know the real limiting factor is me.

Thanks for the continual source of inspiration, I’ve really got to sign up for one of your workshops one of these days.
