On this weekend’s photowalk we were taking just 36shots with a 50mm lens.
Shooting with a fixed, prime lens can be great discipline for the eye. Add to that a little more restriction – a limit of 36shots – and you are really having to think hard about every picture you take. This was the theme of this weekend’s photowalk, which took us from the quaint streets of Sugamo past the trams of Otsuka and into Ikebukuro.
The best part of the whole excercise was that our 36shots all had to link to each other, each following on with some motif, colour or element from the shot before.
For last weekend’s walk we started from Sugamo, in north Tokyo on the Yamanote and Mita Lines and ended up in Ikebukuro. The walk took us through some great neighbourhoods in Sugamo, Otsuka, Zoshigaya and Higashi-ikebukuro.
Shots are coming in from students over the next few days. Dave Powell sent his in already. You may also find some in our Flickr pool.
Justin Choulochas and I also did this recently on a walk from Ryogoku through to Tsukishima and you can see Justin’s result below; click the image to see the larger version on his Flickr stream.
My 36 from that walk are in the gallery below, in order of my taking them. View them as a slideshow to see them all in succession.
