Documenting the 36hrs around the birth of the latest member of the Goodrich dynasty: Charlie arrives on the scene!
No event in the Goodrich household goes undocumented, such is the life of those close to me: it’s just one constant photo-story. I’d been out location-scouting for some upcoming workshops and Hunter and I were grabbing a cheeky beer in Ikebukuro when I got a call from Hiromi: “I think you need to come to hospital now…..”
So, off we went.
Over the next 36hrs myself, Hunter and the family waited at the hospital. Hunter didn’t quite make it to the birth as we just weren’t sure when things were going to kick-off and he went home late on Tuesday night to get some sleep. Charlie arrived at 6.17am the following morning.
The pics in the gallery below chart the 36hrs we all spent at the Niseki Iriyo Red Cross hospital in Hiroo; the waiting, the fun we had entertaining ourselves in the various rooms we were waiting in and the final, wonderful moments when Charlie arrived.
They were all shot on my D700 and they are all straight out of the camera… there has been no time for editing. Much more fun things to be doing
The iphone pics from the first day you’ll find on my Facebook page.
What an event. What wonderful moments to have and share. Proof you should never leave home without a camera!
Welcome to our world, Charlie. Well done Hiromi. Thanks Hunter, for hanging around, helping out and keeping us all entertained.

Congratulations Alfie and to the whole Goodrich Family! That makes it three, you are a real boost to Japan’s fertility rate.
The B&W pictures reminded me of the birth of our first child, what I documented on B&W film. Lovely!
Wish You All the best and plenty of milk for little Charlie!

Congratulations! I remember when my daughter was born; I was edgy and impatient. How was your personal experience compared to your first? I imagine it went smoother than your first.
I hope you and your family are well at the end of this winter season (well, end for me). I’m looking forward to seeing more fantastic photos. The work done here by the folks of Japanorama is inspiring to me. Keep up the good work.

A great set of pictures! It is so cool that Ami and Joe could be so involved. Japan sure has changed. You may look forward to some sleep deprived nights. Enjoy!

Congratulations again the G family. Brilliant set of images, some of them took me straight back to a year in February when our little man was launched, bloody and screaming into an early Shinjuku morning.
Sigh!

Alfie,
Congrats to you and yours especially the new little guy. My own 2nd little man arrived 3 months ago and these photo’s took me right back there again. The endless waiting, stress and finally the joy. They grow up so fast so get as many shots of Charlie as you can and enjoy having a new brother for Ami and Joe. BTW my first born is also called Charlie, so good call on the name (my 2nd is called Joe…which is just too freaky).
