Just a little experiment in focusing and firing multiple frames.
I was out with a student last night, John, and after doing a little street work around Yurakucho we retreated to the International Forum to get out of the rain. We shot a bit more then sat on the benches to do some post-pro on my laptop with the shots he’d just taken. All good fun and we both got some fun shots of movement and people with umbrellas.
On the way through the Forum I got – as usual – mesmerised by the floor markings, especially as they are a lovely yellow and that I had set my camera to a funky 2500K white-balance, pumping the blues and the yellows.
Resting the camera on the floor, and shooting along the ‘braille’ markings on the floor, I decided to shoot on CH [continuous high] whilst focusing from the close focusing distance of the 50mm f/1.2 [45cm] to infinity. I thought it would be a neat way to make a little animation of the focus from close to extreme, and make some funky bokeh effect along the way. Makes me wanna get working on some video asap. Looking forward to Yuto getting started working with me next month
Here you go….
On the time-lapse side of things, here is one I did in Kanda a while back with the iTimeLapse application:

Alfie,
Check this out:

Has some great time lapse shots of Tokyo done with D3x. You should have a crack at something similar. Although I don’t have the lovely backdrop of Tokyo, this vid has made me want to give it a try.

James. Thanks for the link. I know Trey and actually co-ran a workshop with him whilst he was here on that trip. The slow-stuff of his is what I really like. It’s shot on that Casio camera that shoots at 60fps. Very cool. Time-lapse… yeah, cool. But I can actually do it on the iphone more easily, although for the high-rez I’d do it on the D700 with the interval shooting feature.
Small experiment with the iTimeLapse app here, which I did in Kanda is now in the post, just above….

I recognise that spot in Kanda! Thx for the iTimelapse tip, I will take a look at it. I’m due in the scottish highlands next week and want to do some time lapse stuff there which should be really nice.

Nice….. ish. I quite like the idea of things gradually, even if it takes ages, getting into focus at some point.
