All the shots from today's 'Coming of Age Day' brawl in Yokohama

These were all shot with the Epson R-D1 and 21mm Avenon lens. The lens, coincidentally, was also made in Yokohama. :-)

There are about 140 shots in the galleries and one or two of the best in the body of the article. I witnessed bad behaviour but, that said, all the ones making the trouble were very polite to me… which is good. That meant I didn't get beaten up :-)

But, here's the punch that started all the 'fun' off…..

  1. Great, you caught the action

  2. The 21mm Avenon is a great lens for the R-D1

  3. Wow jangan brantam ya !

  4. What's problem…?

  5. Too much alcohol, too much adrenaline. And this day is when the young achieve adulthood: aged 20, it's their coming of age day. So, for a few, that means taking on the Police I guess…. read the article :-)

  6. Interesting post +Alfie Goodrich – nice contrast between the celebratory colour and the stark reality o' B&W.
It's unfortunate how little it takes to go from celebration to brawl in a crowd these days. OF course when ye add a percentage o' folk like young Yakuza into the mix it doesn't bode well…old-school gangsters know how to behave (which is how they became so prolific in any culture).

  7. :)

  8. indeed Meiji Jingu was tame compared to this one! I should put this on my calendar for next year :)

  9. oops … but nice capture : )

  10. haha

  11. Looked through the whole set… would have never guess Shin Yokohama as the place to catch the worst of Japan.

  12. +John Swallow but, I would suggest, even old-school gangsters were once young, dumb and prone to stupidity.

Thanks +Jason Arney for looking through them all. I have taken away the thumbnails and just put a slideshow there now. Easier for people.

+Agustin Rafael Reyes there are two ceremonies there at the Arena; morning and afternoon. Lots of action beyond this sort of brawling. But, when I got there that was the most interesting thing to shoot.

  13. Brawl in Okinawa may be wildest in Japan…

  14. To bad I missed this, should have stayed in Tokyo a bit longer ;)

  15. Some great captures there Alfie. They certainly look a lot more sophisticated than what you would see around any UK city centre on a Sat night. ;)

  16. Good action! lucky the lenses didn't come in any harm!
