Shooting the new 2014 Lexus IS 350 F Sport

Having checked with a bunch of people in the US – and now the car has been previewed at the Detroit Motor Show and is public – I can finally show you a few of the shots I did last year for Lexus.

The New 2014 Lexus IS 350 F Sport. It’s sexy and has just been released at the Detroit Motor Show. I was lucky enough to shoot it at the end of last summer, along with two other cars which are still top secret concepts, so you won't be seeing them for a while… from me or anyone else.

For me, Lexus had always been something of a middle-aged-boring-old-git sort of brand. This car – and the one I can’t yet show you, which was just a clay concept car when I shot it – redefine that. This car redefines it somewhat. The one I can’t show you [if it makes it to market looking at least 50% like it did when I saw the concept vehicle] will redefine the brand a lot.

I’d buy one.

I wanted to take this home.

Bit big to stash away in my camera bag….. shame.

Read the rest of the story and see a dozen more shots of the car here:

  1. Very nice +Alfie Goodrich ! I did not know you were a car shooter?
I love the way you lit the front fender, btw.

  2. I'll shoot anything :-)

  3. But not everyone knows how to shoot cars…

  4. I am a total petrol-head, which probably helps. And as I said in the piece, the DP and the lighting guys were awesome.

  5. This is what I like about the best people in just about any business I have seen. Amazing talent, humility, pure class act. Many kudos +Alfie Goodrich

  6. Might have to look at Lexus much closer. Thanks!

  7. Cool shot …  I get to wrench on them LOL

  8. Ehh I have been looking for these photographs for the past three years +Alfie Goodrich :) well done!! I was converted to Lexus after buying the previous model of this one. To put it simply, despite personal opinions on the look, it's a wonderful car, one that spoils you.

  9. Great job. Really like Lexus style

  10. Brilliant lighting on this and the composition makes it feel quite sporty for some reason.  Great shot.

  11. taste! +Alfie Goodrich

  12. Very nice work Alfie, and a great opportunity.  I have been trying to do more and more car photography myself here in Florida, and mostly get individual car owners wanting shots out on location, but did have a chance to shoot for two auction companies, but the same thing outdoor on location, no crew, no giant softbox.  One question, if you had more light to work with, would you have put that light on the wheels?  Or did you not want to highlight them so much and only light the curves of the car?

  13. +Jason Collin Thanks for your comments, sir. I probably should have made it clearer in my write-up that these are some of my fave shots of this car…. not the ones that were used by the Lexus crowd to promote the car. Which, of course, had more intimate detailing and more thorough lighting coverage of all the details of the car.

The shots on the red backgrounds, at this link, were some of mine and show the car in much more evenly lit detail. The red background was added by them, after the shoot.

So, yes, there was more light and there were shots where everything was shown in detail. Now the car is 'live' it gave me the opportunity to get some of the more moody shots out of my collection and give them some air-time :-)

Good luck with your car shoots!

  14. Superb photos Alfie- you are making me want to get one ;)

  15. Looks great

  16. Stunning shot!!!

  17. Outstanding!
