Fascinating location, Dungeness One I spent a lot of time in as a kid growing up in Kent and a place I was very happy to have made the time to visit with Mari recently. We had just 20mins there before the light faded.
My mum lived in Dungeness between 1939 and 1941, when her father was lighthouse-keeper there. he was a Royal Navy officer but Trinity House had been taken over by the Navy when the war started. So his first posting of WW2 was to the lighthouse in Dungeness.
Lots of my own memories in Dungeness. All the ones my mum gave to me, that she'd had from living there. Including being strafed by a German dive-bomber, whilst walking her dog home. Dog got one in the leg, she was fine. Amazing what some bored German pilots used to get up to as they flew back to Germany…..
