Panorama from Cape Manzamo, Okinawa, Japan

On Friday evening I was shooting a job in Okinawa for a client. I sorted myself out to have Saturday on the island as well, which turned out to be a good move seeing as Tokyo had another day of intense snow that grounded most of the flights back into Haneda Airport.

As it turned out, although I missed the opportunity to shoot some more wonderful snow shots in Tokyo, I spent Saturday cruising a few of the nice spots on the west coast of Okinawa.

Temperatures reached 20 degrees later in the day, in stark contrast to the weather back home in Tokyo. The morning was super windy and it made for some dramatic clouds and wonderful atmosphere along the coast.

One of the first spots I stopped in on Saturday morning was Cape Manzamo. The southern end of the coast there is the most photographed, but just north of the main beauty spot is another great view across the bay.

Yesterday was a lovely opportunity to explore a part of the Japanese archipelago I'd never visited before and to scout a few spots for a workshop, which I hope to do later this year.

These shots?

Nikon D800E
Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 AF-S @ 24mm
5-shot bracket on each
Merged and edited in Nik HDR Efex Pro for Photoshop

I thought of blending them into a stitched panorama but actually preferred a layout reminiscent of how we used to do panoramas in the old days, with prints: just laid out next to each other.

I really like the way you polyptyched that rather than stitch.

The shifted frames is a cool effect – almost makes them look like standing screens.

Thanks +Jonas Neergaard-Nielsen. Kind of fed-up of stitched panoramas at the moment. So this worked for me. Glad you like it.
