Trey Ratcliff of Stuck In Customs.com

Trey Ratcliff undoubtedly has one of the most visited travel photography blogs on the web

…and I have been following his work for some years but had never met him. We caught up yesterday and spent a few hours together.

I took him to the International Forum Building to see what he would make of it, confident that it would be the sort of place that would appeal to him. It did.

Trey’s work is definitely thought-provoking and has proved, for many, quite controversial: he sees the world as vibrant and colourful and that’s how his HDR images come out. Not the way I would choose to make them, but that’s the great thing about photography and the way we all see the world – it’s different from person to person.

I am very interested to see what he makes of this location, a location I shoot in a lot.

There will be a feature about Trey on www.japanorama.co.uk later this week.

Had a great meal afterwards, when my wife joined us. Great chat about futurism, philosophy, photography; really enjoyed Trey’s company a lot. Very generous spirited guy. I’m catching up with him again tomorrow to take him along to the Nikon Salon, so he can get his camera cleaned…..

Nikon D3X. Very nice. And the tripod rig he has was awesome.

Shot details:
Nikon D300
Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 @ f/3.5
Nikon SB800 on the hot-shoe, with Lumiquest III Softbox.

I was looking to get my camera cleaned too! How much does it cost?

If you are in guarantee period, it's free. If not, about 1000Yen.

Wow! That is really good! Does that include sensor cleaning?

Alfie Goodrich wrote...
That is JUST for sensor cleaning.

How come he got a tripod in there?

Very quiet. Was late in the evening. One guard spotted us but just walked past.

Alfie | Japanorama I think he's using an RRS (Really Right Stuff) ballhead.

Looks like a Really Right Stuff (RRS) Ballhead. They are custom order and probably one of the best ballheads for a tripod around.
