Belgo, European Beer Cafe, Shibuya

January 1, 2008

Belgo European Beer Cafe, ShibuyaIf you are in Tokyo, like your beer and enjoy drinking it in a relaxed European style setting then Belgo’s in Shibuya could be just the place for you. They also do excellent food. Our editor can highly recommend the place.Located in a basement on Meiji Doro, just five minutes walk from Shibuya Station, is the Belgo European Beer Cafe.

“I was introduced to it by a friend of mine I met through the Asoboo website,’ says Alfie, ‘and have been there a number of times since to enjoy the beer.

Although I think it might take me a few months to work my way through their extensive selection of Belgian trappist and other continental beers.”

The bar has Hoegaarden and Leffe Blonde on tap and there is a wall by the bar literally filled with fridges containing a vast selection of Belgian, British and other foreign ales.

“The Guiness is also excellent,’ remarks Alfie, ‘and out of the pints of Guiness I have drunk so far in Tokyo, possibly the closest in flavour to what I would call a decent pint of Guiness back home in the UK.”

If you aren’t the kind of person who can go out drinking beer without a bite to eat, Belgo also does some great food ranging from ‘moules frites’ [mussels cooked in white wine and garlic served with french fries] to beef in Guiness stew and traditional fish and chips.

With a great atmosphere, interesting character interior and being so close to the JR station in Shibuya, Belgo has a lot going for it and is highly recommended as a place to spend a relaxed evening with friends.
